This course provides a comprehensive introduction to some fundamental aspects of function of a single variable, trigonometric functions, limit, continuity of a function, differentiation of a single variable function, extremum of a function, mean value theorem, L’Hospital’s rule, antiderivative and the indefinite integral, definite integrals, fundamental theorem of calculus, applications of the definite integral, the exponential and logarithmic function, the inverse trigonometric functions, hyperbolic functions and their inverses, integration techniques.

This course includes the topics mostly related with mechanics part of fundamental physics. These topics are; significant figures, units and unit analysis, vectors, motion in one dimension, motion in multi dimensions, Newton’s Laws and their applications, work and kinetic energy, potential energy and conservation of energy, momentum and conservation of momentum, rotation of rigid bodies and dynamics of rotational motion.

(Fizik I Laboratuvarı)
This laboratory course includes the experiments related to mechanics. The laboratory experiments covered in this course are based on the measurement of time, period and force using proper tools. These measurements are used in order to determine the speed, velocity, acceleration and period of the objects in motion. With the help of physics laws, some physical quantities are determined following these measurements compared with those obtained from theoretical approaches.

This course discusses topics related to electromagnetism. The topics covered in this course are; electric charge and force, electric field; Gauss’s law, electric potential, capacitance and dielectrics, current, resistance and electromotive forces, DC circuits, magnetic fields and forces, sources of magnetic field, electromagnetic induction, inductance and circuit oscillations, electromagnetic waves.

PHYS 104 L Physics II Lab. (0+0+2) 1 ECTS 2
(Fizik II Laboratuvarı)
This laboratory course includes the topics related to electromagnetism. The laboratory experiments covered in this course are based on the measurement of current, magnetic fields and potential differences using proper tools.  These tools are used for the purpose of determining some of the electrical parameters such as resistance, power, inductance and capacitance. Using magnetic field sensors, magnetic field around conductors having various geometries are measured and current-magnetic field relations are obtained. Dependence of magnetic field strength with the distance from the source is also extracted.

The course introduces to basic concepts of economics. The course content begins with the analyses of market mechanisms, which are perceived as the elementary organization form of the economy. Subsequently, the role of governmental policies and regularizations are incorporated into the analyses. Firm behavior and the organization of the industry are described in further details. Long-run and short-run dynamics of macroeconomic variables are investigated. The analyzed theoretical concepts are critically reviewed by the help of empirical data. The course ends with applications of presented methods on selected special topics.

This course provides an introduction to the theory of probability and probabilistic models. The aim is to qualify the students for decision making under uncertainty and solving industrial engineering problems. The course content involves basic concepts of probability, conditional probability, expectation and variance, discrete and continuous random variables, joint probability distributions and conditional expectation, moment generating functions and limit theorems.
 
IE 201 Engineering Economics (3+0+0) 3 ECTS 5
(Mühendislik Ekonomisi)
This course is concerned with the fundamental principles to be employed in the financial assessment of engineering projects. It provides the student with the time of value concepts, which are crucial to perform the analysis of the proposed engineering alternatives in terms of the economic viability. The student is expected to learn and understand these techniques, and further to be able to apply them for real-life investment decision making processes (both for personal and corporate decisions).
 
IE 205 Manufacturing Systems (3+0+0) 3 ECTS 5

The course aims to give students the fundamentals of discrete manufacturing systems used in metal-cutting, automotive, and auto-parts industries. The student will be able to justify the application of automated systems, code basic computer numerical control (CNC) programs for machine tool, select appropriate industrial robots, and analyze transportation & storage systems for flexible manufacturing settings. Group Technology-based manufacturing cell design, Flow & Job Shop scheduling applications, Lean Manufacturing and just-in-time methods will be analyzed, as well as main production strategies such as Lean Manufacturing, Just-in-Time, and their integration with the manufacturing resources and enterprise planning (MRP, MRP II, ERP)
 
HISTR 211 Principles of Ataturk and History of the Turkish Republic I (2+0+0) 1 ECTS 2
(Atatürk İlkeleri ve İnkilap Tarihi)
This course examines the modernization process that started in the last period of the Ottoman Empire, the Atatürk revolution and the establishment of the secular nation-state. The enlightenment movement in the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the legacy of the political thought left by the Ottoman intellectuals will be emphasized and the history of modernization as a whole will be introduced to establish cause-effect relationships. The establishment of a new state, a republic that dominates the will of the people, instead of the will of the sultan, reforms in the early Republican era, the basic principles of the Atatürk revolution will be examined. The aim of the course is to provide students with a solid foundation on Turkish political history.

The aim of this course is to provide the students with a conceptual framework for identifying and resolving accounting issues faced by managers and to give an understanding of how financial and managerial accounting concepts, tools, and techniques are used throughout an organization for decision support. The course covers the following topics: job order costing; process costing; activity-based costing; cost volume profit (CVP) analysis; pricing; budgetary planning and control; preparation of balance sheet, net income and cash flow statements; financial statement analysis; and introduction to equity valuation models.
 
IE 208 Operations and Facilities Design (3+0+0) 3 ECTS 5 
(Operasyon ve Tesis Tasarımı)
Facilities design and planning is the process of laying out and locating new manufacturing and service facilities, and revising or improving old facilities with respect to constraints on resources such as space and budget. This course addresses both facility layout and facility location problems. As a part of the first problem (layout procedures), the arrangement of departments within a manufacturing or service facility is considered. Moreover, the student is expected to learn and understand the theory, application methods and important techniques which are required to model, analyze and propose location for a single or multiple facility.

MATH 228 Probability and Statistics for Engineering II (3+1+1) 3.5 ECTS 7
(Mühendislik için Olasılık ve İstatistik II) 
The aim of the course is to give the fundamentals of statistical analysis. This course introduces the basics of statistics for engineers to summarize numerical and categorical data obtained from surveys, experiments, etc. The topics include different data types, measures of location, variability, shape, and association between variables. The fundamental concepts of estimation, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing and apply appropriate tests for population mean, proportion, variance and difference, independence, and goodness to fit. Students will be able to apply Analysis of Variance and Linear Regression using modern tools. Prerequisite: MATH 227
 
HISTR 212 Principles of Ataturk and History of the Turkish Republic II (2+0+0) 1 ECTS 2
(Atatürk İlkeleri ve İnkilap Tarihi II)
This course examines the birth of modern Turkey after the War of Independence Victory. It analyzes the revolutions in political, social and cultural fields and the basic principles of the Atatürk revolution. It is aimed for the student to learn the establishment process of the new Republic and the newly created institutions. Information is given on the transition to a multi-party life from the one-party period, the Democratic Party Period, the 27 May and 12 September military interventions, and the recent Turkish political history. This course aims to give students the ability to comment on these important turning points of recent history.
 
IE 301 Operations Research II (3+0+0) 3 ECTS 6

This course introduces the students to stochastic models and methodologies for analyzing and providing solutions to decision-making problems with uncertainties. The course will emphasize Markov Chains, Exponential Distribution, Poisson Process, Queuing Theory and Markov Decision Process, and their applications in real life problems.

The course will cover various forecasting methods, inventory management subject to known or unknown demand, and project scheduling. The course will have a theoretical component, as well as use of technology for hands-on practice.

IE 307 Modeling and Methods in Optimization (3+1+1) 3.5 ECTS 7

This course presents various aspects of mathematical modeling and of problem-solving strategies used for the solution of realistic, large-scale, complex problems. The following topics are covered: shortest path problem; minimal spanning tree problem; maximum flow problem; building good mathematical programming models; importance of linearity; linearization of some nonlinear programming problems; goal programming; examples of combinatorial optimization problems;  heuristics for combinatorial optimization problems such as list processing heuristics, steepest descent, simulating annealing, tabu search, genetic algorithms; non-linear models in one variable; convexity;  unconstrained and constrained optimization in non-linear programming; building good integer linear programming models.

ENGR 301 Technical Report Writing and Presentation (2+0+0) 2 ECTS 4
(Teknik Rapor Yazma ve Sunma)
This course will introduce students to scientific writing and proper citation focusing on engineering documentation types such as technical reports, proposals, posters, articles and short reports. Students will also be familiarized with business and electronic media communication activities. Oral, written and graphical data presentation skills will be improved and assessed using written assignments, poster preparation and oral presentation.

IE 200 IE Engineering Practice I (0+0+0) 1 ECTS 2

This course will provide students with an understanding about the kinds of work industrial engineers do in an organization. Students will obtain practice about product/process design, manufacturing or service systems, maintenance, quality control. They will develop self-learning skills and practice engineering by working in a company for minimum 20 working days. Students will analyze an activity, describe it in details, and provide and interpret necessary data to generate relevant performance measure(s).
 
IE 302 Quality Engineering (3+0+1) 3.5 ECTS 5

This course covers the fundamental methods of quality engineering that are needed in today’s industry applications. The emphasis is on the statistical tools of quality engineering systems. Moreover, the course discusses quality excellence models, cost models, quality audit programs and quality information systems.

IE 304 Simulation (3+0+1) 3.5 ECTS 6
(Benzetim) 
This is a hands-on course on simulation for undergraduate students. The course includes simulation modeling and programming in general-purpose languages. The use of simulation for estimation, comparison of alternatives and optimization will be addressed. The course covers random number generation and testing, input data analysis, simulation model validation and verification, discrete event simulation, statistical output analysis and experimental design.

This course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of supply chain management. Topics include aggregate planning, materials requirements planning, just-in-time production fundamentals, distribution resource planning, and job shop scheduling with several sequencing rules. The subjects covered throughout the course provide students with the required knowledge to develop strategies employed in the design and management of supply chains. The course considers both the systems observed in real-life applications and the basic analytical methods to provide insights for effective management.

IE 401 Information Systems (3+0+0) 3 ECTS 5
(Bilişim Sistemleri)
The course will give the students an understanding of creating, managing and manipulating databases. We will start by examining competitive business environment and enterprise reference architectures. Then we will learn business analysis methodologies and modeling languages. We will investigate the essentials of using SQL for data management. We will end the course with working on basic business application architectures such as client-server, N-tier, XML and web services. The course will have a theoretical component, but it will mainly focus on the use of technology for hands-on practice.
 
IE 491 IE Senior Design Project I (0+6+0) 3 ECTS 6
(EM Tasarım Projesi I) 
This course constitutes the first stage of IE senior design project. Students will first perform a literature survey on a problem that they selected at the beginning of the semester. Then, based on the problem selected, students will propose a design for a complex system, process, device or product under the supervision of their advisors.

This course will provide students with an understanding about the kinds of work industrial engineers do in an organization. Students will obtain practice about product/process design, manufacturing or service systems, maintenance, quality control. Students will analyze an activity, describe it in details, suggest an improvement for an existing activity, and provide and interpret necessary data to generate relevant performance measure(s).
 
ENTR 400 Business Skills and Entrepreneurship (3+0+0) 3 ECTS 5
(İşletme Becerileri ve Girişimcilik)
The course mainly focuses on introducing the students with the experience of creating and growing new ventures as well as finding creative ways to start ups’ challenges, by analyzing real life examples and meeting with start-up founders in person. Throughout the course, the students will be working individually or in groups on "how to start a start-up from scratch” by focusing on their own ideas of a new product, service or process and will learn to present their start up ideas by using a business model canvas. At the end of the semester, they will make presentations for pitching those ideas in the classroom. As entrepreneurship is a career opportunity for students coming from a broad range of disciplines, the course will not be limited to students of Business and Economics only. Instead, the students with the basic knowledge on business related concepts will be able to attend the course.
 
IE 492 IE Senior Design Project II (0+6+0) 3 ECTS 6

This course constitutes the second stage of IE senior design project. In this course, based on the problem selected, students will propose a design for a complex system, process, device or product, and apply the proposed design to the selected problem under the supervision of their advisors.

The aim of the course is to give the fundamentals of exploratory data analytics. Exploratory data analytics focuses on exploring data to understand the data’s underlying structure and variables, to develop intuition about the data set, to consider how that data set came into existence, and to decide how it can be investigated with more formal statistical methods.

IE 431 Introduction to Financial Engineering (3+0+0) 3 ECTS 6
(Finans Mühendisliğine Giriş)
The aim of this course is to provide the students with a comprehensive introduction to derivative securities and their application in financial engineering. The course will cover; what forwards, futures, options and swaps are; how they can be used as risk transferring/ minimizing devices (hedging); how they can be used to create additional value to firms (trading); and how they are valued (pricing and marking to market). 
Cost of carry valuation model for forwards/futures, binomial pricing for options, dynamic delta hedging, the Black Scholes formula, Greek letters (delta, gamma, vega, theta) and value at risk (VaR) will also be introduced.

This course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of marketing analytics. Topics include market response models, customer segmentation, basket analysis and pricing models. The subjects covered throughout the course provide students with the required knowledge in the design and management of marketing analytics. The course considers both the systems observed in real-life applications and the basic analytical methods to provide insights for effective management.

Decision analysis provides a logical framework for structuring and evaluating a decision scenario with the goal of obtaining clarity of action. This framework involves formulating creative alternatives, characterizing uncertain events, and incorporating the decision-makers values and preferences. This course introduces a set of coherent tools used for framing problems and performing logical analyses, and provides a foundation for decision analytic modeling in Excel, R, etc. Topics covered include decision trees, influence diagrams, value of information, sensitivity analysis, utility theory and the applications of decision analysis on real life cases.
 
IE 434 Transportation and Logistics (3+0+0) 3 ECTS 6
(Taşımacılık ve Lojistik)
This course is concerned with the planning and control problems observed in transportation and distribution logistics. The aim of the course is to provide students with a solid understanding of the analytical methods and approaches to model and solve real-life logistics management problems, such as facility location and allocation problems, service network design problems, multi-modal transportation problems, and vehicle routing problems. The student is expected to learn and understand the theory and solution techniques which are needed to obtain solutions for the well-known logistics problems. Therefore, the student should be familiar with the basics of operations research, and be capable of using GAMS software and coding with computer programming.
Prerequisite: IE 202
